DD Skylark and Cutlass, drag Coronet and Nova, track Corvair, burn the Falcon and Dart. Guess I’d sell the VW.

I ID’ed it as a 1966 based on the text directly below the picture stating “...we pitted one 1966 Volkswagen against...”.

Wouldn’t that mean these are 1969 prices?

See, I’m on mobile and Kinja’s new thing is not loading the full resolution on mobile. The text under the photo is just a sad gray mess.

Interesting to see them pointing out that their car is the most expensive in their add. I feel like you would want to point out the lower cost of maintenance without bringing up the cost of entry when you are the most expensive.

So, that Beetle would be about $7500 today, inflation adjusted. Seems about right for a clean, maybe semi-restored, example. Basically no depreciation in 47 years.

Understandable. Kinja mobile often seems way more awkward than it should be.

1966 VW Beetle sedan, loaded except for sunroof, had msrp after delivery of about $1717. This is according to this price list:
According to the US Bureau of labor statistic s, that would be about $12,750. So, basically Nissan Versa money.
In 1969, $1155 would be about $7600, or what would be a reasonable price for a 2014 Versa with about 45,000 miles.
The Corvair is about $4500 in 2016 dollars, and you can’t even find a running 3-year-old car for that now.
